Members of the lab (part of the Redwood Center for Theoretical Neuroscience).

Jacob Yates
Principal Investigator
Studies active vision and how eye movements shape neural coding, using high-resolution eye tracking and statistical models of vision.

Tejasvi Kothapalli
PhD Student — Vision Science
Works at the intersection of neuroscience and AI (NeuroAI). B.S. in EECS from UC Berkeley (2022).

Hadi Vafaii
Postdoc — Vision Science
Builds brain-inspired generative models with sparse, recurrent representations to infer hidden causes of sensory data. B.Sc. Physics (Sharif), Ph.D. Physics (UMD, 2023). Enjoys tennis and music.

Dennis Perez
PhD Student — Vision Science
Models how eye movements alter retinal input statistics and optimal encoding, and compares predictions to biological recordings.

Deepthi Bannai
PhD Student — Neuroscience
Models computations underlying early visual processing, focusing on adaptive and dynamic mechanisms in the retina. B.S. Biomedical Engineering & Chemistry (UT Austin). Likes hiking and crafting.

Ryan Ressmeyer
